Dear Hoya Gateway Volunteers,
In May, Hoya Gateway will celebrate it’s one year anniversary. In one short year, over 700 alumni and over 1300 student have joined the program, with over 860 connections made. As we noted when we launched, we are in some ways building the plane as we go, building Hoya Gateway brick-by-brick. Hoya Gateway is a work in progress and is strategically built to be a flexible and responsive platform for student-alumni interactions.  As such, we are excited to launch a new meeting type option for alumni: Job Shadowing. Now, in addition to offering mock interviews, informational interviews, and resume reviews, you can choose to host a student at your place of employment for a ½ day or full day job shadowing experience.  We hope you will consider logging in [hoyagateway.georgetown.edu] and adding “job shadowing” as a meeting type you are willing to offer.

Hoya Gateway could not have launched at a more perfect time.  Now more than ever, Universities, including Georgetown, are focused on the future of higher education and student preparation for the world beyond the ivory tower. Thank you for being early-adopters and believers in the role that alumni can take in the totality of the Georgetown experience – on campus and beyond.

Georgetown’s Provost Robert Goves is a central figure in the discussion of the future of higher education at Georgetown. I would encourage all of you to follow the Provost’s blog and read the posts below in particular:

Finally, I wanted to invite you all to participate in an in-person event on April 10:  Hoya Gateway Live. By joining us on campus for this student-alumni networking event we can literally bring Hoya Gateway to life for students, demonstrating the diversity and power of the Georgetown network and alumni connections. I hope you will join us! [https://hoyagatewaylive.eventbrite.com]

Looking forward to another exciting year of Hoya Gateway connections and growth!

Student Spotlight

Julian Martinez (C’15), is majoring in Finance and Marketing, with a minor in Portuguese.
Hometown: Long Beach, CA
Favorite Class: Consumer Behavior
World Traveler: Julian loves soccer and is an avid FC Barcelona fan. He even ran with the bulls while studying abroad in Spain.
Hoya Gateway Experience:  I’ve done 20 Hoya Gateway meetings so far, and each one has taught me something valuable. I used to not have confidence in my resume or cover letter writing skills, but after reviewing it with several alumni, it’s one of the best I’ve seen!
Favorite Advice from an Alumni:  “Julian, the most important thing you’ll realize once you’re out of college is that grades and GPA aren’t as important as who you know. Having a strong network in your corner is vital for success. A strong network can only be attained by being a genuine and likable individual.”
Favorite Spot On Campus: Inside Dalghren Chapel
